European Safety Week – Day 4 – Working from Heights

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting health and safety during European Safety Week, today we’re putting the spotlight on Working from Heights.

Whether it is using ladders, scaffolding, or elevated platforms, working at heights comes with a unique set of risks, and falls are among the leading causes of serious workplace injuries.

The Importance of Height Safety

Falls from heights can happen in an instant, and often result in severe injuries or worse. That’s why it’s crucial to take every precaution when working from heights. With the right safety practices in place, many of these accidents are preventable.

Tips to Keep in Mind While Working From Heights

  • Use Proper Fall Protection Equipment – Fall protection is the first line of defense when working from a height. Ensure you are using certified “Fall Assist Equipment with “IN DATE” certification.
  • Know Your Limits – If you feel unsafe or unsure about working at heights, don’t hesitate to speak up. Height safety should always be a priority, and no task is worth risking injury.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments – make sure all work is organised, planned and carried out by a competent person.
  • Clear the Work Area of Hazards – Before you begin working from a height, ensure the area below and around you is free from clutter, tools, or other potential hazards that could cause accidents. Being mindful of your surroundings can significantly reduce the risk of falls.

At Hanley Calibration, safety is everyone’s responsibility. By taking the time to understand the proper precautions needed when working at heights, we can create a safer working environment for all.
